Tim Keating, MBA RPP MCIP
Tim was raised on a small mixed farm near Estevan in southeastern Saskatchewan. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and graduated with Advanced Degrees in Rural and Urban Development and Economics in 1995 with a Municipal Planning Option Specialty Track. Tim went on to work in positions across rural Saskatchewan from Community Development Manager with the Mainline Rural Development Corporation of Broadview Saskatchewan to Assistant Manager of MidSask Community Futures Development Corporation of Outlook Saskatchewan.
Tim moved to Alberta in 1998 to begin work with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development in Falher as Business Development Specialist for the Peace Region of Alberta. Tim later accepted a position in Red Deer with AVAC Ltd. as New Venture Development Officer in 2001 and then returned to Alberta Agriculture as Senior Development Officer with the Processing Investment Attraction Branch.
Tim furthered his education by completing a Graduate Diploma in Management in 2003 and Master of Business Administration in 2006 from Athabasca University. Tim is also a professional planner and member of both the Alberta Association and Canadian Institute of Planners.
Tim has a breadth of experience in commercialization, investment and project development with expertise in rural economic development and primary and value-added agriculture processing. Tim was responsible for investment attraction and commercialization as Senior Development Officer with the Bio-Industrial Development Branch of Alberta Agriculture and Food working in the area of bio-energy and bio-industrial development and is now president of Keating Business Strategies Ltd.
Kerry Keating, MBA
Kerry is an accomplished executive with a thirty five year proven track record, experienced in all phases of general management including development and execution of operational business policies, financial programs, and the implementation of sound production management strategies. He is experienced in hedging FX and commodities. Broad based abilities in operations, administration and project management. Kerry is as comfortable in the boardroom as on the plant floor. Promotions and experience were developed through the ranks.
Major career responsibilities include profit and loss and all general management functions including: strategic planning, preparation of operational and capital budgets; sales marketing and new business development; quality assurance, maintenance and production departments; development of corporate policies and procedures; contract negotiation; capital equipment acquisition; materials management and all human resource functions including collective bargaining negotiating teams; hiring, training and motivation of key management staff and plant personnel; implementation of process/profit improvement programs; and capital project management. Kerry’s education includes the GMD and he earned his MBA from the Athabasca University in 2006.

40 million litre /year Ethanol Plant – Alberta
240 tonne/day Flour Mill – Red Deer, Alberta
180 tonne/day Oat Mill Red – Edmonton
Oat mills – Saskatchewan and Ontario
150 tonne/day gluten facility – Alberta
600 tonne/day palm and soy oil crushing and refinery – Nigeria
750 tonne/day flour milling factory – Nigeria
200 tonne/day cassava mill- Nigeria
600 tonne/day feed mill – Nigeria
Kerry returned to Canada after working as Director for Flour Mills of Nigeria where he oversaw the start-up and commissioning of several processing plants (flour mills, feed mill, soy oil, starch extraction and palm oil).
Giselle Liberman, M.A., B.Ec.
Giselle Liberman is a professional economist specialized in market, economic and policy/regulatory analysis. She graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies – specialized in innovation systems and economic development. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and a certificate in General Business from Langara College. Giselle has a strong research and project record in a variety of sectors. She has managed market research and feasibility studies in the agri-food and bio-industrial sector, and has completed survey design, data analysis and report writing for economic development and investment attraction strategies.
Giselle has also worked for over 4 years as a Researcher at Simon Fraser University. She has published and co-authored academic articles, which were published in leading research journals including Social Science & Medicine and Prometheus: Critical Studies in Innovation.

Shan Van Maarion, BComm
Shan graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Over the years she has worked for a variety of mid size businesses such as not-for-profit daycare, furniture store, auto dealership and trucking company. She has kept the offices organized doing PR, payables, receivables, government reports and other duties as required. Most recently, she has taken courses at Red Deer College to upgrade her skills in MS Word and Excel. Shan contributes to the efficient day-to-day operations of the KBS office and supports the work of management and other staff. She continues to progress in her career by continually upgrading her skills and having an enthusiasm for getting a job well done.
